Residency Program

Welcome to the Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island.  Please look over our website to see why we are the best Residency training program in the United States.

Our four-year program offers outstanding clinical experiences with exposure to the entire depth and breadth of Obstetrics and Gynecology, exceptional educational support, and multiple and varied research opportunities for our residents in a uniquely supportive, warm environment in the wonderful city of Providence.  We are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.  In fact, at each of our last two site visits, we received a five-year accreditation (the longest time period allowed) with no citations and commendations for the outstanding training we provide.

Education and Research

The Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology combines clinical practice, classroom instruction, and research to provide residents maximum exposure to the breadth of gynecological and obstetrical medicine and surgery.

As a free standing, high volume, Women’s Hospital we are able to provide outstanding training without away rotations with 2 rotations during intern year taking place at Rhode Island Hospital.During all blocks, residents care for patients under the supervision of hospital- and community-based faculty with a focus on developing graduated autonomy. Along these lines, rotation schedules are structured according to post graduate year (PGY) and service on each rotation carries specific responsibilities and learning objectives.

There are approximately 50 hospital based faculty and 80 community based faculty who contribute to our resident's education bringing tremendous and varied experiences and knowledge to share. ALL patients are considered part of the resident service. Our large volume allows our residents to become familiar with the complete depth and breadth of Obstetrics and Gynecology allowing our graduates to be exposed to a range of conditions other graduates just read about.

Clinical Settings

As one of the top ten ob/gyn and pediatric care facilities in the nation, Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island offers a full range of services designed to meet the primary and specialized needs of women and newborns.
