Welcome to Brown Anesthesiology and thank you for your interest in our residency program! The Anesthesia group is a division of Lifespan Physician Group (LPG), which provides anesthesia services for Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Newport Hospital, as well as several ambulatory surgery centers in Rhode Island. We are a large, Brown University affiliated, multi-specialty professional group with anesthesiologists who provide advanced skills in pediatric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, transesophageal echocardiography, critical care medicine, regional anesthesia and pain medicine. The bulk of your clinical training will take place at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children's Hospital. Rhode Island Hospital is Brown’s main teaching hospital and the state’s largest tertiary care hospital and only level 1 trauma center. It has 719 licensed beds, and very busy cardiac, neurosurgical, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, and general surgical services. Hasbro Children’s Hospital is the state’s only pediatric hospital, providing over 95% of all pediatric surgery services in the state.
Though we are just starting our own anesthesia residency program, our staff has trained residents from various anesthesia training programs for over twenty years. We are excited and eager to finally train our own residents at a level commensurate with our Ivy League status. Our diverse patient population and significant case complexity will provide an outstanding environment for your clinical training. Additionally, we have developed an intensive educational program that will utilize an array of teaching modalities in order to prepare you for board certification and independent practice. Our overall goal is to not only train compassionate and competent anesthesia consultants, but also develop clinicians and scholars who will further the field of anesthesiology.
Though Rhode Island is the smallest state in the union, it has much to offer from Providence’s urban renaissance to Newport’s wonderful beaches and sailing. It is a short drive to the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire as well as to New York City and Boston. Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are also easily accessible. It is truly a great location to live, work and play!
We look forward to learning more about you and answering any questions you may have about our program. Please feel free to contact us at BUARP@Lifespan.org or (401)606-4286.
