Dr. Reichner receives an R01 grant award!

November 13, 2014

Dr. Jonathan Reichner received a 5-year R01 grant award from the NHLBI for his project, "Neutrophil endothelial interactions and barrier function in sepsis". Dr. Reichner is one of 3 Co-PI's on the grant along with Minsoo Kim, PhD and Richard Waugh, PhD, both from the University of Rochester, NY.

The main goals of this project are 1.) Determine the underlying mechanisms that lead to the accumulation of neutrophils of the vasculature with ensuing damage to barrier function, and 2.) Understand how to control vascular damage through manipulation of neutrophil extravasation has potential applications in many acute/chronic inflammatory settings including sepsis.   Dr. Xian O'Brien is also a collaborator on this project.  Total costs for the 5-year period is $965,085.
