Community of Science (CoS) Pivot - Funding Database
CoS Pivot is a searchable database that enables researchers to identify funding opportunities from governmental, private foundation, and international sources. The CoS Pivot Funding Alert provides a weekly email with a customized list of funding opportunities based on previously specified criteria provided by the individual CoS Pivot members. Access to CoS Pivot is available to the Brown community through an institutional subscription. Click the above link to access the Library Guide to Pivot and to sign up for training.
Please note: Brown no longer has university wide access to this tool. Faculty grant seekers looking for funding from private foundations and corporations are strongly encouraged to contact Brown's Office of Corporate & Foundation Relations for support and coordination.
Internal Funding Opportunities
Dean's Emerging Areas of New Science (DEANS) Awards
The DEANS Awards, a new grant award program for Brown University faculty members, will foster scientific discovery through partnerships between Brown basic science faculty in the Division of Biology and Medicine and Alpert Medical School clinical faculty members. The program focuses on areas of biomedical research with translational promise, with a preference for research that can readily lead to advances in knowledge of disease pathogenesis and/or medical care. Submissions must come from an investigative partnership of a Brown University Division of Biology and Medicine faculty member and an Alpert Medical School physician or hospital-based research faculty member.
OVPR Internal Funding Opportunities
The Vice President for Research is pleased to offer a number of research funding opportunities for Brown Faculty. Research Seed Funds and Salomon Awards are competitive grants distributed directly to faculty researchers and administered by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). OVPR distributes the Humanities Research Funds to department chairs, who then make allocations to individual faculty within their departments. Detailed guidelines are available in the document OVPR Research Funds and Application Guidelines 2015.
Limited Submission Funding Opportunities
Many funding agencies and foundations have established limited submission policies and will only review a limited number of applications from each institution. Applications or nominations submitted without proper institutional endorsement, or submission of a number over the limit, may result in automatic rejection of all Brown proposals. The Vice President for Research, in coordination with the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences and the Dean of the Faculty, has established processes to facilitate the selection and submission of applications for programs with limited submission policies.
