Diversity in Medicine Visiting Student Scholarship

This program is an opportunity for qualified underrepresented (URM*) students to participate in clinical electives in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Participants will interact with residents and faculty and will receive mentorship from the members of the Brown Minority Housestaff Association (BMHA).

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University serves a vital role in advancing the delivery of health care, medical education, and scholarship in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.

With strengths in ob/gyn subspecialties, the department boasts a top residency training program and outstanding fellowships. The Department is one of the few programs in the country to have all four American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology accredited fellowships: Maternal-Fetal MedicineGynecologic Oncology, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Breast Health, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The department also directs Alpert Medical School's core clerkship in obstetrics and gynecology, which has achieved national recognition for innovation in faculty development and performance-based assessment.

The application deadline is 8 weeks prior to the elective start date.



Fourth year medical student in good academic standing at a U.S. accredited medical school. Student must have completed all core clerkships at their home institution.

To apply:

Unfortunately, we have met the capacity for OBGYN and do not have any scholarships available for the 2019-2020 elective calendar year.  However, students are able to apply for an OBGYN elective at the Warren Alpert Medical School through VSAS and the application will be reviewed.

Scholarship award:

$1,000.00 for travel, housing and/or personal expenses.
