Visiting Students Enrolled in US/Canadian Medical Schools
Inquiries are welcome from 4th year students currently attending other U.S. or Canadian medical schools who wish to participate in our Clinical Elective Programs. We are unable to accept requests for a basic (required) clerkship experience in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry Family Medicine, or Community Health.
We use VSAS for medical students applying from US and Canadian medical schools. If your school does not use VSAS to apply for away rotations, please send us an email at email@example.com and we will send you a PDF application.
Our 2017-18 catalog and requirements have been posted in VSAS. What you see on the "Institution Information / Additional Requirements" page is accurate for the 2017-18 year.
Visiting students who receive an offer from Alpert Medical School will be required to submit documentation of a background check completed within 1 year of the elective end date.
Please be advised that there is a non-refundable $150 processing fee per elective. Please adhere to our schedule of dates (see calendar). Since the availability of particular electives vary, it is suggested that you request alternative electives and/or dates.
We expect visiting students to honor their commitment once they have been accepted to participate in an elective. Students must notify our office via email if they decide to cancel an elective. If we are not notified of the cancellation and the student does not show up for the scheduled elective, the home institution will be notified.
All visiting students must be covered by malpractice or personal liability and health insurance and must submit proof of immunizations with their application. A maximum of three months (12 weeks) may be spent in clinical electives at Brown University. However, visiting students may not participate for more than four weeks in any one elective. There is no tuition charge for a student who is enrolled in good standing at his/her U.S. or Canadian medical school.
Housing arrangements are the responsibility of the visiting student. The availability of housing is variable and cannot be guaranteed.
The Visiting Student office can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

If you are a student at an international medical school with whom Brown has a bilateral exchange agreement, please note that there are limited openings and you must be nominated by your medical school.
