Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior Celebrates 88 Trainees, Distinguished Faculty at 47th Annual Graduation Ceremony

On June 10, members of the Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior community gathered for the first time since 2019 to mark the department’s 47th annual graduation. The evening, breezy and warm, was celebratory in spirit with faculty, trainees, and their families mingling beneath a white tent before the main ceremony in Alumnae Hall. Inside, Brown Psychiatry and Human Behavior Chair Steven Rasmussen, M.D., delivered a speech to the audience followed by a series of faculty teaching awards.

Carpenter Named President of the Society of Biological Psychiatry

On April 29, professor of psychiatry and human behavior Linda Carpenter, M.D., assumed the presidency of the Society of Biological Psychiatry, succeeding Judy Ford, Ph.D., of UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. Carpenter, who serves as director of Butler Hospital's Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Clinic and Neuromodulation Research Facility, was named president-elect at the society's annual meeting last year.

Howard joins APA Maternal Mental Health Advisory Panel

Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior Margaret Howard, Ph.D., has joined the American Psychiatric Association (APA)'s Maternal Mental Health Advisory Panel. The twenty-member group, which includes representatives from the APA councils, a psychiatry fellow, and non-psychiatrist behavioral health providers, is charged with developing a needs assessment to gauge the attitudes and practices of mental health providers about pregnant patients with mental disorders.
