Samuel Delany is a highly laureled writer of science fiction and cultural criticism, in which he explores questions of sexuality, gender, race, language, perception, and the fluctuating conceptions of "the human." His prodigious literary talents are intimately informed by his experiences as a gay black man, the grandson of a freed slave and nephew of famous civil rights workers. He is also an acute observer of off-the-grid urban spaces, the textures of micro-neighborhoods, and queer locations.

Samuel Delany will be at Brown from November 6 through 10th and will be doing a number of presentations and events on campus during that time (including giving the annual Henkle Memorial lecture; engaging in a conversation with visiting professor Kara Keeling at the John Hay Library; doing a Q&A after a film screening including a documentary about him as well as one of Delany's own films; and meeting with students and faculty from across multiple units at Brown, including MCM, Literary Arts, Africana Studies, the Pembroke Center, the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America, the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice, Theatre Arts and Performance Studies and the LGBTQ Center, etc.
