Mark Seto Hired as the New Director of the Brown University Orchestra

The Department of Music is proud to announce conductor, musicologist, and violinist Mark Seto as Director of the Brown University Orchestra effective July 1, 2018. In addition to bringing his vast experience as an educator and orchestra director to the classroom and stage, Seto will assist in the development of Brown’s new Performing Arts Center. Seto comes directly from Connecticut College where he was Associate Professor of Music and director of the Connecticut College Orchestra.

Congratulations, David Fossum, Assistant Professor at Arizona State

The Arizona State University School of Music in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts welcomes Dave Fossum as assistant professor in the musicology program, beginning in January 2019.

Eric Nathan awarded Brown University's Henry Merritt Wriston Fellowship and Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Award

Assistant Professor Eric Nathan has been awarded Brown University's Henry Merritt Wriston Fellowship, for a semester of paid leave in Spring 2019, and a $15,000 Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Award to support his upcoming portrait album release by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. The Wriston Fellowship will be presented at the University Award Ceremony on Monday April 30th at 5pm in Pembroke Hall and the Salomon award will be presented at the annual Celebration of Research on April 19th at 4:30pm at the Faculty Club. Congratulations, Professor Nathan!

Brown Daily Herald Reviews BUO's Concert with Tracy Silverman

The Brown University Orchestra performed “Love Song to the Sun” to accompany the song’s composer and electric violin soloist Tracy Silverman in the first concert of the semester Saturday. After the previous night’s performance was canceled due to inclement weather, Saturday’s concert brought a packed house of eager students, faculty and community members.
