Kyle BrierKyle BrierKyle Brier ‘21 is a pianist, vocalist, music director, and composer from Scranton, Pennsylvania. He specializes in vocal performance and recording studio production. Outside of the music department, Kyle studies acting and playwriting in the TAPS department. He hopes to combine these two areas through musical theatre composition and film/TV/multimedia scoring.

Caroline DresslerCaroline DresslerCaroline Dressler ’22 is a violinist/fiddler from Arlington, MA concentrating in biology and music. After having spent a year studying contemporary improvisation in the Tufts/New England Conservatory dual degree program, she is excited to engage her interest in traditional music idioms through studies in ethnomusicology. At Brown, Caroline has been involved in the Orchestra and the World Music Ensemble; extracurricularly, she performs with several traditional/contemporary Celtic ensembles including Giulia Haible and Caroline Dressler, Scottish Fish, and Lampyridae. Caroline is also active in a number of Brown environmental and interfaith groups.

Credo DuarteCredo DuarteCredo Duarte '21 (from Chicago) had no music experience prior to Brown. He began teaching himself the piano in the practice rooms at Brown and eventually got comfortable enough to co-produce an EP: Spotify Link. He is double-concentrating in Computer Science and Music and is co-president and the lead vocalist of Mariachi de Brown. He is currently learning music theory and developing his production and musical styles. Biggest influences: Julieta Venegas, Kanye West, Miguel Bosé, Manu Chao, Blood Orange.

Seamus Hubbard FlynnSeamus Hubbard FlynnSeamus Hubbard Flynn '21, from Minnesota, is a composer, flutist and pianist whose output ranges from carefully notated music to text-based and graphic-based improvisation. Influences include Pauline Oliveros, Flying Lotus, Andrew Norman, and Tyshawn Sorey, among many others. Seamus has taken courses in composition, music theory, ethnomusicology, and popular music studies. Aaron GruenAaron GruenAaron Gruen ’22, from Germany, concentrates in Music and Chemistry. He is especially interested in cello performance and modern classical as well as prog-rock music. In his Junior year he spent a semester studying cello at the Prague Conservatory. He is also an avid chamber musician with his piano quintet. Outside of music, he works in a chemistry lab and is a member of the Brown running club.

Emma Giventer-BraffEmma Giventer-BraffEmma Giventer-Braff '23 is a classical soprano and aspiring music academic. She enjoys singing opera and art song, and also studying musicology, music theory, and composition. She also concentrates in linguistics, and studies individual modern languages. She is on the board of Brown Opera Productions, is writing her first opera (called I Capture the Castle), and interns for an NYC nonprofit that brings music to the homebound and elderly.

Xiaoyu HuangXiaoyu HuangXiaoyu Huang '21 concentrates in public policy, English, and music. He is the co-founder and vice president of Pansophy Education Institute, a teaching and education/immigration advising company based in Greater Vancouver, Canada. Xiaoyu will serve as the music director of Brown Chamber Orchestra in 2020-21. Marijke PerryMarijke PerryMarijke Perry is double concentrating in Music and Classics and is studying mostly theory and composition. She is particularly interested in vocal and theatrical performance, and as such participates in extracurricular musical groups on campus, such as Chorus and the Madrigal singers. Nick ScottNick ScottNick Scott ’21 is a senior music concentrator focusing on music theory and pipe organ study and pedagogy. He also sings alto in the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church choir, and served as the music director for the Bear Necessities A Capella Group. Outside of the music department, Nick is also pursuing a concentration in biology, working as an Emergency Medical Services provider, and currently applying to medical school.

India ThieriotIndia ThieriotIndia Thieriot ‘21 is a singer-songwriter from San Francisco. On campus, she is a member of the Chattertocks a cappella group and loves composing on the piano and guitar in her free time. Last summer, she spent time at The Village Studios in Los Angeles recording original songs and hopes to continue writing and recording in the upcoming year. Her goal is to release a full album before graduating from Brown, as well as to gain more live performance experience.
