Grant Recital Hall

Join Brown postdoctoral fellow and rapper/producer Sammus (Dr. Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo) in conversation with rapper, comedian, podcaster, and wrestler(?) Open Mike Eagle about songwriting and the business of making music in 2019. Since releasing his first solo record in 2010, Eagle has garnered critical acclaim from outlets like Pitchfork for his distinctive “art rap” style. In 2019 Eagle joined comedian Baron Vaughn to produce “The New Negroes,” a stand-up and music series that has appeared on Comedy Central and features other artists like MF Doom, Danny Brown, and Lizzo.

This event is part of “Rap as Storytelling,” a new course in the Music Department at Brown, and it is made possible by support from The Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University.
