Applied Music Program (AMP) Theory Exam

10:00am - 1:00pm

Students taking private lessons through the Applied Music Program (AMP) are required to take one semester of college-level theory before they are permitted to continue their studies in AMP beyond the MUSC 0810 level of the course. This exam provides students who possess a background in music theory the opportunity to place out of the AMP theory requirement by passing the AMP Theory Exam. Students who pass the exam may substitute any full-credit music course (or two half-credit music courses) for the required music theory course.

MUSC 0400A: Introduction to Music Theory - Mandatory First Meeting

11:00am - 12:00pm

If you wish to register for one of our MUSC 0400-level courses, you need to attend the first meeting. No previous music experience is necessary. Preference will be given to potential music concentrators and applied music students. Students will need to register for labs which meet twice weekly.

MUSC 0550 Music Theory Placement Exam

1:00pm - 2:00pm

In order to place into MUSC 0550: Theory of Tonal Music, students must take the assessment exam which will be administered online the first day of class. To place into MUSC 0550, students need fluency with notation, key signatures, scales, intervals, triads and rhythm. Keyboard skills are helpful, but not necessary.
