Paul Wardlaw is widely recognized as one of college tennis’ most successful and innovative coaches. Author of Pressure Tennis and High Percentage Tennis, Wardlaw annually shares his comprehensive, systematic approach to developing high performance tennis players with junior players from across the country and world.

Led by Brown women’s tennis coach Paul Wardlaw, The Wardlaw Elite Coed Tennis Camp offers a high intensity four-day program designed for junior and high school tennis players with the aim of immersing players in a competitive college tennis environment. The goal of the camp is to continue your development as a player while exposing you to a competitive college tennis environment. While technique will be evaluated and addressed, the aim of the camp is to focus on how to play. All technique and drill work takes place in a tactical framework.

Players will be shown all aspects of a college tennis training program including the following topics:

Camp Staff consists of Brown head coach Paul Wardlaw, Brown assistant coach JC Nunez and other college coaches and players.

Paul Wardlaw - Camp Director
Wardlaw begins his thirteenth season coaching the women’s team at Brown University after seven record-breaking seasons at the University of Iowa. At Brown, Wardlaw has once again turned a stagnant program into one of the top programs in the region and nation, being named the 2009 ITA East Region Coach of the Year. Wardlaw’s formative coaching years took place at Kenyon College where his teams won three NCAA Division III National Championships in 1993, 1995 and 1997. Wardlaw earned Wilson/ITA Division III Coach of the Decade honors in 2001. Wardlaw is well known nationally and internationally for his tactical system called Directionals and for Pressure Tennis, his book that outlines a games-approach practice and training system.

JuanCarlos Nunez - Assistant Camp Director
Nunez anchors the Brown tennis staff after a successful six year stint as the assistant at UMass and a stellar four year playing career at Arkansas Little Rock. The 2013 ITA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year was a driving force behind UMass’s rise to national prominence and status as an A10 power. An exceptional student, Nunez graduated with two Masters Degrees from UMass. He is also widely known as a players’ coach and recruiting guru.

Evening and afternoon sessions include small group discussions or seminars devoted to team building and leadership, differences between college and junior tennis, and the recruiting process for all NCAA Divisions. We’ll also discuss academic qualifications and SAT/ACT strategies for high school students interested in highly selective colleges and universities.

Facilities include Brown’s eight-court Varsity Tennis Complex and Brown’s four-court indoor facility housed in the Pizzitola Athletic Center. All twelve courts are US Open-style and tennis instruction is guaranteed rain or shine.

Safety and Camper Supervision is a Brown tennis camp priority. Dorms are monitored and staffed by trained Brown RA staff. All tennis sessions are staffed by a Brown University Trainer.

Testimonials from 2016 Campers and Parents

"I thought the experience you provided was both well-organized and well-executed. Furthermore, it gave Natalie an idea of what she can do to keep working toward her goals, not only athletically but also academically.
In addition, the atmosphere at your camp was encouraging, energizing and FUN. Everyone on your staff was so nice and friendly, it really added up to an excellent experience. I enjoyed observing the vibe among the players also. They seemed to get along well, which in my view, can be largely due to good coaching and leadership. As we move ahead with planning our college prospects and visits, I will consider you a resource."

"Katy really enjoyed her time at Brown with you and the staff. She learned so much and came away with a renewed energy to improve. The resources you've provided are exceptional, and Katy will be sure to review all of the material. We've also purchased the Williams/Colomb writing book you recommended––thanks so much.
We really appreciate your dedication to the program and your interest in encouraging and cultivating strong student-athletes, Paul. As Katy is entering high school in the fall, we will definitely reach out in the coming years with any questions regarding college and college tennis."

"Leslie had a wonderful time at camp and is more focused than ever on "what she needs to do next." She left feeling inspired and said she learned a lot.
Thank you also for running a safe, positive camp. As the mother of a young player, it's comforting to know she was well supervised."

"Thank you so much for the camp last week. I enjoyed it a lot and I just wanted to thank all of you for making the camp an amazing three days. It helped improve my game a lot, which I found really helpful. I had such a good time and I met so many new people who became my friends right away. The fact that there were people from all over the United States was super cool. You coaches were always really kind and patient every time any of us had a question. This truly was an unforgettable camp and an extraordinary experience. I really look forward to stopping by next summer."
