Last week, the Department of Biostatistics joined the Departments of Epidemiology, Behavioral Health Sciences and Health Services Policies & Practices as well as the Master’s Program in Public Health, as we welcomed over 100 students to Brown’s School of Public Health. Biostatistics welcomed its largest class, to date, with 5 new doctoral students and 19 Master’s students.

Brown Biostatistics Alumnus, Miles Ott, PhD'13, is an Assistant Professor of Statistical & Data Scienceswith Smith College in Northampton, MA. His research focuses on public health and statistical analysis of social network data. Dr.

Biostatistics Professor Christopher Schmid has been named President-Elect for the Society for Research Synthesis Methods (SRSM) for 2018. He will become President of SRSM in 2019. In addition to his faculty position with the Department of Biostatistics, Schmid is the Co-Director of Brown’s Center for Evidence Synthesis in Health and directs the Clinical Study Design, Epidemiology and Biostatistics
The Department of Biostatistics is pleased to welcome our newest faculty, Assistant Professor Lorin Crawford and Assistant Professor Jon Steingrimsson and our Biostatistics/Data Science Post-Doctoral Fellow, Alice Paul.
Assistant Professor of Biostatistics and our Master's Graduate Program Director, Adam Sullivan, was the recipient of the University's 2017 Teaching with Technology "Showcase Course Award" which was presented by Maud Mandel, Dean of the College, in May. With a record-breaking 20 nominations, Sullivan was recognized for three (3) Biostatistics courses he made available online; PHP2511: Applied Regression Analysis, PHP2515: Fundamentals of Probability and Inference, and PHP2560: Statistical Programming in R.
The Department of Biostatistics celebrated its 2017 graduates with family, friends, faculty and staff on Saturday, 27 May 2017, during our annual Biostatistics Commencement Reception. Also recognized were our 2017 Department award winners and the Department’s inaugural chair, Dr. Constantine Gatsonis.
Brown's Department of Biostatistics was pominently represented at this year's ENAR Spring meeting through eleven (11) presentations made by Department students, alumni and faculty. The meeting took place in Washington, DC.
