Special Seminar, Featuring Dr. Wilmot Godfrey James

“Getting the Politics of Pandemic Response Right or Fighting an Old Species of Trouble”  

Dr. Wilmot Godfrey James, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Scholar and Chair of the Pandemic Research Center, Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy at Columbia University in the City of New York. He conducts research on pandemic response and biosecurity, convenes high-level meetings on planetary threats, leads the Center for Pandemic Research at ISERP, and is an Associate Director in the Program in Vaccine Education at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. James also serves as a consultant to the Africa Center for Disease Control (Africa CDC). 

This lecture will highlight how to counter the next pandemic, the world must find the political will and governance mechanisms to get three things right:

● Train a global network of highly skilled and connected public health professionals
● Deliver on the vision for more effective national and global surveillance
● Accelerate and expand R&D and manufacturing drive for vaccines, treatments, and diagnostics

In this lecture, Dr. James will discuss what it means to work on these three areas of effort in the context of
the developing world, specifically Africa.
