About the SCU
The Statistical Consulting Unit (SCU) is an approved service center located at 121 South Main Street. Our mission is threefold: to provide collaborative research assistance to faculty, research staff, and students in all departments of Brown University and its affiliated hospitals; to promote the growth of research collaborations; and to provide a valuable educational experience to Biostatistics graduate students through training as statistical collaborators.
The SCU consists of a faculty director, Dr. Stavroula A. Chrysanthopoulou, faculty consultants from the Department of Biostatistics and Center for Statistical Sciences and student consultants who are enrolled in the graduate programs (MS, AM or PhD) offered by the Department of Biostatistics at Brown University School of Public Health.
The SCU offers a variety of services. We operate a free clinic where each client will be offered a free one-hour initial consultation. The initial consultation is a face-to-face meeting between the client(s) and two SCU consultants. For some projects, this initial consultation will be the only assistance that is required. For others, the purpose of the free consultation will include assessing the project needs and the scope of work required, as well as estimating the project cost. For those projects usually require assistance in data analysis and manuscript preparation, we will provide these services for an agreed upon fee.
Statistical support for the preparation of grant applications:
The SCU will act as a point-of-contact for investigators interested in establishing a collaborative relationship with CSS faculty, who will be serving as the co-PIs or co-investigators on grant proposals. The SCU will refer the investigators to faculty who are best suited to serve such roles.
