Health Services, Policy, and Practice

The Department of Health Services, Policy, and Practice is dedicated to improving health for all through cutting-edge health services research and effective policy dissemination.  Our mission is to spearhead new and improved effective health and policy initiatives based in genuine respect for diverse individuals and communities.  We disseminate new knowledge and skills with a rigorous training program that provides rich course offerings, engaged teaching, and partnership in innovative research.

We believe that health care is an inherent right that must be maximized and protected through theoretically grounded, evidence-based policies.  Our faculty and students are directly involved in developing, testing, and disseminating innovative, multidisciplinary strategies built on collaborations with community groups, care providers, insurers, government, and numerous other stakeholders.  Together we are committed to achieving the best health through a fair and equitable system.

Health Services Research PhD Program


HSR students come to our program highly accomplished from varying backgrounds. Among the many reasons they cite for their success in the HSR Program are their supportive cohorts, encouraging and available faculty mentors, and a School which prides itself on selecting the best quality people to support students from orientation day to graduation.
