Admission is open to those with or without relevant post baccalaureate training although those with a Masters degree or relevant doctoral training are preferred. Regardless of disciplinary background, applicants with a relevant Master's degree, as determined by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis, may petition to transfer credits to count toward the doctoral degree.
Students wishing to pursue graduate work in Health Services Research must complete a Brown University application (see details regarding SOPHAS below). Applicants are required to submit GRE exam scores (within five years, no minimum requirement). Other standardized tests (e.g., MCAT, LSAT) may not substitute for the GRE. Subject test scores can be submitted but are not required.
TOEFL scores are required for a student whose native language is not English, but may be waived for those who hold a bachelors or masters degree from a US institution.
With regard to international transcripts, SOPHAS will only accept evaluations obtained from World Education Services (WES ICAP). SOPHAS cannot accept any documents other than the WES ICAP evaluation. For more information on applying as an international applicant, visit www.my.sophas.org.
Applications open annually on September 1. The deadline for submitting an application is December 15. Applicants should expect to be notified within 8-12 weeks of the December 15 deadline.
The Brown University School of Public Health adopted the SOPHAS application system for the 2017 admissions cycle. SOPHAS is a centralized application service used by many of the accredited schools and programs in public health. All applications are now processed through SOPHAS.
Questions can be directed to SOPHAS via e-mail.
Code 7765 has been assigned to the Brown University School of Public Health for reporting GRE scores. Please indicate this code when you take the test so that we are sent your scores automatically.
