Shaun Forbes, a 2020 graduate in Health Services Research recently successfully defended his dissertation titled “Propagating Ambiguity into Decision Analyses of Test-and-treat Strategies.” Another of the Program’s multiple-award winners, Shaun began his career at Brown as a 2015-2016 Brown University Presidential Fellow and was a two-time awardee of the Society for Medical Decision Making’s Lee B. Lusted Student Prize, one of which was the prestigious Stephen Pauker Award for Quantitative Methods and Theoretical Developments.

Lacey Loomer, a 2020 Program graduate in Health Services Research, recently successfully defended her dissertation titled "The Impact of Rural Add-on Payment on Medicare Beneficiary Access and Outcomes.” Lacey has the distinction of being the first Program graduate to defend in the Zoom format, which was very successful and well attended. The HSR Doctoral Program is pleased to announce that HSR doctoral student Catherine Ettman received a 2020 Prose Award from the Association of American Publishers for excellence in Nursing & Allied Health for a book which she co-edited, Urban Health, published by Oxford University Press.
Congratulations to HSR doctoral student Cyrus Kosar, who led a study finding that rural seniors hospitalized for certain life-threatening conditions are more likely than city-dwelling peers to die within a month of being discharged to an aftercare facility.
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Imbedded Pragmatic AD/ADRD Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory works to build the nation’s capacity to conduct pragmatic clinical trials of interventions embedded within health care systems for people living with dementia and their caregivers. Professor Terrie Fox Wetle was recognized by the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) at their 2019 Scientific Awards of Distinction Ceremony, with an award named in her honor.
