Michael Bernstein & Molly Magil - June 2018

Michael Bernstein, along with Molly Magill, presented results from their meta-analysis on Motivational Interviewing (MI). In MI there has been a growing interest in how client talk about behavior change and how that may relate to outcomes at follow up. Here, they examined the relationship between 21 different subtypes of client language and addictive behavior outcomes. Results suggested that many sustain talk (I.e., statements against making a change) subtypes, but not change talk (I.e., statements for making a change) subtypes, related to substance use at later follow up.
