The Mini-Fest Concert also features Dance Extension, Brown University’s modern repertory company.

REPERTORY WORKSHOP
Saturday March 18th - Granoff Studio One
RESERVE A SPOT (in any/all parts of the workshop)

A hallmark of Julie Adams Strandberg's philosophy is her belief that American modern dance repertory should be studied and experienced by all and recognized on par with its sister arts. Come participate in any aspect of this three-part workshop to get to know the style and perspective of contemporary choreographer Robert Battle!

Part I: Take Class with Erika Pujič
12:00pm - $10 (cash at door) / Free with Brown or RISD ID
Open to all levels, but some dance background is assumed

Erika Pujič is a nationally recognized master teacher who has been staging  Robert Battle's choreography for over twenty years. While students at Juilliard, Pujič and Battle began collaborating and Pujič helped Battle realize his choreographic voice. While Battle’s own organic way of moving is lyrical and lush, he found the compact, feisty, intense Pujič fascinating. Pujič’s hard-hitting, percussive attack became a defining feature of Battle’s choreographic style.

Part II: Learn Robert Battle's Choreography
1:00pm - Free
Open to all levels, including non-dancers

Erika Pujič will continue from the class and teach the original steps from Robert Battle's dances, while Rachel Balaban, Brown University adjunct lecturer, will teach an adapted version of the choreography that you can do seated in a chair! Enjoy the rare opportunity to learn excerpts from a dance that you will witness in part 3, the informal showing.

Part III: See an Informal Performance
2:00pm - Free

Experience Robert Battle's choreography performed by a range of populations: members of ADLI’s company, Dancing Legacy, students from Brown University and Central Falls High School, and dancers with Parkinson’s Disease.

You can join in the workshop starting with Parts I, II, or III!
Spectators welcome at all times.

CELEBRATING A VISIONARY EXHIBIT
Wednesday-Thursday March 15th-16th - 10am-4pm
Friday-Saturday March 17th-18th - 10am-10pm
Granoff Living Room Galleries
Free and Open to the Public

The Celebrating a Visionary exhibit reflects on a remarkable career through photographs, videos, artifacts, and text. Tracing different eras grouped thematically, the exhibit connects Julie's overall vision and philosophy to their manifestation with American Dance Legacy Initiative.
