Artist Talk with Sarah Paulsen
Thursday, March 16, 2017
12:00pm - 1:00pm
St. Louis-based artist Sarah Paulsen will speak about the events and experiences that have informed the artworks displayed in Playing Innocent, on view in the Carriage House gallery from February 27 through March 16. In response to instances of racialized violence in the St. Louis area such as the 2008 mass shooting at the city hall in Kirkwood, MO and the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Paulsen has used her creative practice to critically explore her own whiteness, its intersection with other social identities, and its social and historical construction. In this talk, Paulsen will discuss how her work serves as a documentation of this process of artistic inquiry and investigation, and the occasional insights it has provided her.
Lunch will be provided. No RSVP required.
