Where can Guantánamo be found in United States culture and politics? How do migration, security, refuge, and human rights affect our communities?

Join us in exploring these and many other questions throughout the month of September as we host the Guantánamo Public Memory Project, an internationally traveling exhibit of surprising stories, images, and documents - from before 9-11 and after - that challenges, complicates, and reveals hidden histories of the US naval station at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

The exhibit was co-curated between Brown University and 11 other universities across the United States. In Providence, the exhibit will also feature newsletters written by detainees at Guantánamo as well as the work of artists Mary Beth Meehan,Chris Sims, and students at the International Charter School in Pawtucket, to connect the themes of migration, security, refuge,and human rights with our communities in Providence.

All events are free and open to the public.  This exhibit is part of the eponymous “Bringing  Guantánamo Home”, a series of free events examining Guantánamo and issues relating to its past, present, and future throughout September 2014.
