Afternoon Chats with Dr. Ron Aubert

Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America (CSREA), Lippitt House

Dr. Ronald Aubert
CSREA and the School of Public Health, appointment through December 2017

Please join us for an informal series of discussions with Professor Ronald Aubert on the topic of, "Diabetes and Social Vulnerability: The Role of Race, Immigration and Ethnicity." How does social vulnerability play a role in communities at risk for diabetes? What other kinds of social factors are at play both for prevalence and prevention?

In the final discussion of the semester, Dr. Aubert will discuss prevention of type 2 diabetes in communities of color. There is a pretty significant study that demonstrates that adults who are at high risk for diabetes can reduce the likelihood of progressing by some 60% if they make some modest changes in lifestyle. Studies also show that people of color are the least likely to make these changes. What are the social, environmental and factors that may account for this reluctance and what might facilitate these lifestyle changes?
