These faculty-led workshops were designed to support graduate student research on race and ethnicity, build research community across disciplines, and aid in the professional development of Brown graduate students.

Writing – Friday, February 19, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm
Austin Jackson (Assistant Director of The Writing Center and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Nonfiction Writing Program, Brown University) on how to approach writing projects and how to work through writing blocks.

Teaching – Thursday, March 11, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm
Crystal Feimster (Professor of African American Studies, History, and American Studies, Yale University) on how to teach under complex conditions, reach your students, challenge, and inspire them.

Publishing – Wednesday, March 17, 10:00 am-11:30 pm
Matthew Guterl (Chair of American Studies, Professor of Africana Studies and American Studies, Brown University), on how to get journal articles, books, and op-eds on race and ethnicity published.

Exams – Monday, March 22, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm
Daniel Kim (Professor of English and American Studies, Brown University) on how to think about and prepare for comprehensive exams.

Laura López-Sanders (Assistant Professor of Sociology, Brown University) on how to write successful grants.
