CSREA, Third Floor of Hillel, 80 Brown Street
We invited students, faculty, staff and other members of the Brown community to share their experiences with racial microaggressions and microaffirmations. This exhibit is part of a broader movement to help make visible the reality and negative impact of racial microaggressions on buillding a just community.
Microaggressions: "brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative racial slights and insults toward people of color. Perpetrators of microaggressions are often unaware that they engage in such communications." Source.
At CSREA we added a Microaffirmations dimension: we think that building affirming communities across race and ethnicity means illuminating and sharing examples of affirmation, too.
Microaffirmations: "Tiny acts of opening doors to opportunity, gestures of inclusion andcaring, and graceful acts of listening." Source.
