What I Am Thinking About Now: Almita Miranda, “‘Los Americanos’: Children in Mixed-Status Households and the Fight Against Family Separation”

, Room 103

Please join us for a “What I Am Thinking About Now” presentation by Almita Miranda, Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow, Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America (CSREA) and Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University.

Los Americanos”: Children in Mixed-Status Households and the Fight Against Family Separation
This presentation will focus on the intra-household dynamics of Latinx mixed-status families, and the ways in which U.S.-born children in particular, are experiencing the prospect of family separation or forced relocation. Using ethnography to analyze parent-child relationships, child-centered activism, and narratives of shifting national, racial, and gendered identities, I seek to explore the debate over contemporary U.S. immigration laws through the lens of children, youth, and stolen childhoods.

RSVP: [email protected]. Snacks and caffeine will be provided.

“What I Am Thinking About Now” is an on-going informal workshop/seminar series to which faculty and graduate students are invited to present and discuss recently published work and work in progress. All are invited to attend and participate.
