What I Am Thinking About Now: Professor Patsy Lewis, "Crisis, Shock and Resilience: A Caribbean Story"

Please join us for a “What I Am Thinking About Now” presentation by Patsy Lewis, Visiting Professor and Faculty Fellow of the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Brown University and Director of the Development Studies Program.

Crisis, Shock and Resilience: A Caribbean Story
This conversation focuses on Grenada’s experiences in the aftermath of diverse political and environmental shocks that include the US invasion in October 1983, following the killing of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and members of his government, and the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004 which ravaged the economy and society. It locates Grenada in the social cohesion literature, exploring the structures that helped the society to recover from these shocks, and in post-conflict literature which explores different approaches to understanding societal ruptures and the impacts resulting from the restructuring of the economy along neo-liberal lines.

RSVP: [email protected]. Snacks and caffeine will be provided.

“What I Am Thinking About Now” is an on-going informal workshop/seminar series to which faculty and graduate students are invited to present and discuss recently published work and work in progress. All are invited to attend and participate.
