What I Am Thinking About Now: Sasha-Mae Eccleston, “Odd-See’s Speech and the Fault Lines of Black Classicisms”

Please join us for a “What I Am Thinking About Now” presentation by Sasha-Mae Eccleston, Assistant Professor of Classics at Brown University.

Odd-See’s Speech and the Fault Lines of Black Classicisms
This talk draws on Suzan-Lori Parks’ exploration of caninity in Suzan-Lori Parks’ Father Comes Home from the Wars, Parts I, II, III to, simultaneously, explore Homer’s treatment of human-animal relationships and the political economy of language in his epic poem, Odyssey, and to trace Classics’ vexed relationship with the racist, sexist, and logocentric underpinnings of post-Enlightenment humanism in the United States.

RSVP: [email protected]. Snacks and caffeine will be provided.

“What I Am Thinking About Now” is an on-going informal workshop/seminar series to which faculty and graduate students are invited to present and discuss recently published work and work in progress. All are invited to attend and participate.
