The Renaissance and Early Modern Studies Program (REMS) pursues an interdisciplinary approach to the study of art, history, society and thought in many parts of the early modern world with an emphasis on contacts between Europe and Africa, Asia, and the Americas over the past millenium. Students select one discipline as a foundation, taking courses in two further disciplines for this concentration.

The program interrogates the meaning and value of the ‘Renaissance’ by pursuing comparative and multicultural approaches to the early modern era, examining the origins and precursors of modern institutions, beliefs, and cultural practices.
