Dr. Bradlow Dissertation Wins Numerous Awards

Dr. Ben Bradlow's dissertation,  “Urban Origins of Democracy and Inequality: Governing São Paulo and Johannesburg, 1985-2016,” has been recognized with the following awards:

  • Winner, Theda Skocpol Dissertation Award, American Sociological Association — Comparative Historical Sociology Section, 2021
  • Winner, Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship Dissertation Award, American Sociological Association — Collective Behavior & Social Movements Section, 2021
  • Honorable Mention, Sérgio Buarque de Holanda Prize for Best Dissertation in the Social Sciences, Latin American Studies Association — Brazil Section, 2021

Dr. Bradlow's committee members were Professors Patrick Heller (Chair), Nitsan Chorev, John Logan, and Peter Evans (UC Berkeley.)  He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Weatherhead Center For International Affairs, Harvard University.
