New York Bus Trips
Heather Bhandari brought her students to the Spring Break Art Show in NYC
The Department of Visual Art runs a bus trip to New York City each semester. Some instructors require their classes to visit a major museum or exhibit related to their teaching, while other faculty will tour galleries in Chelsea or the Lower East Side with their students to see the work of contemporary artists. Bus trips have also been made to MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA, the Clark Museum in Williamstown, MA, and Dia in Beacon, NY.
Socials
Halloween Social, 2016
The Department hosts 2-3 social events for VA Concentrators during the academic year as a means for students to meet one another outside of the studios. These gatherings are attended by faculty and staff and are important community-building opportunities.
Open Studios
Jennifer Avery '17 hangs work in the Painting Studio during Open Studios
At the end of the spring semesters, VA DUGs coordinate an Open Studios event that provides an opportunity for students to showcase their work to their peers at Brown and the broader Providence community.
