The painting collection contains less than one hundred works, the great majority of which date to the decades after 1940. Early highlights from the collection include a Robert Motherwell collage from 1948, William Baziotes’ Mask, 1944, and an early, 1958, Frank Stella painting entitled Blue Horizon. Works from the 1960s and 1970s include moderate holdings of paintings by Jules Olitski (20) and Walter Darby Bannard (11), as well as singular works by Ron Davis, Edward Avedesian, Ray Parker, Larry Poons, and Joan Snyder. Paintings by Alice Neel and Pierre Alechinsky stand out, as well as works from the 1980s and on by Jonathan Lasker, Ross Bleckner, Mel Bochner, and Christopher Wool. A recent acquisition added fourteen works by new image artist Denise Green to the collection.
