About BEMS
Brown EMS is a blended volunteer/paid service licensed by the State of RI to provide all levels of pre-hospital care to the Brown community. We provide Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS and ALS) care and transport 24 hours a day year round except during brief interruptions for periodic maintenance.
Founded by students in 1978, Brown EMS is currently staffed by a corps of student volunteers who are licensed RI EMTs and who are assisted by a staff of student and non-student ALS Providers who oversee care when needed. EMTs staff the ambulance as well as special coverage requests by Athletics, Student Activities, and Events. During major campus events such as Spring Weekend and Commencement, Brown EMS operates with a modified Incident Command structure to ensure the safety of large numbers of participants and guests. As a department of Health and Wellness at Brown, Brown EMS prioritizes response availability for students whenever possible but will respond to all medical emergencies within the Brown community. In addition to providing the highest level of care to our campus, BEMS is also an important leadership development and clinical training ground for student volunteers. LEARN MORE
