Vanessa Britto, MD
Assistant Vice President for Campus Life and Student Services and Assistant Vice President for Campus Life and Student Services
Vanessa Britto, MD, MSc'96-Community Health, Res'89, F'91 is the Assistant Vice President for Campus Life and Student Services and Executive Director of Health and Wellness joining Brown in January 2018. Vanessa is a board-certified internist, a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and has been a student life professional and administrator since 2001. Having leadership roles in the field of college health at the local, regional, and national levels, prior to returning to Brown, Vanessa was formerly the director of health services at Wellesley College. At Brown, Vanessa oversees the areas of Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), BWell Health Promotion, Student and Employee Accessibility Services (SEAS), and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) – a combined team of over 200 staff and students. Dr Britto is excited to return to Brown University to champion a new chapter and a new vision for health and wellness at Brown – continuing in the tradition of innovation and leadership among peers.
In her spare time Vanessa can be found reading, traveling, enjoying live music (especially jazz), biking or getting in a round of golf.
Adam Pallant, MD/PhD
Dr. Pallant joined the staff in August, 2017. Dr. Pallant received his BA in biochemistry from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and his MD/PhD at the University of Rochester. He completed his specialty training in pediatrics and adolescent medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Pallant had been the Pediatric Residency Director at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a primary care pediatrician at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence for 19 years prior to joining the health services team. Dr. Pallant has a special interest in the intersection of mental health and physical health.
When free, he loves to be outdoors, especially body surfing at the ocean, and while not a great cook, he's a serious foodie.
Tanya Sullivan, APRN, CNP, MS
Assistant Clinical Director/ Nurse Practitioner
Tanya joined the staff in January 2019. She has been certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the past seventeen years and is licensed in the State of MA and RI as an advanced practice nurse with prescriptive privileges. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from U. Mass Boston, MSN from the MGH-Institute of Health Professions, and her BA in Psychology from Providence College. Prior to joining Brown University Health Services, she was the Associate Director of Wellesley College Health Service and also worked in family and adolescent community health. Tanya's clinical interest includes supporting students with complex and diverse health and mental health concerns including eating disorders.
She enjoys early morning running, paddle boarding, and anything outdoors with her family.
Patricia Maier, MD, FAAP
Dr. Maier joined the staff in August of 2003. She earned a BS from The City College of New York and an MD from New York Medical College. She completed her residency program at The Medical University of South Carolina and The Brown University Program in Family Medicine at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. Prior to coming to Brown she was affiliated with Harvard-Pilgrim Health Care's Urgent Care.
Dr Maier likes to take really long walks with family and friends- great way to see Rhode Island and stay connected to loved ones. Gardening is another pleasure, long term goal has been to eliminate her lawn-almost there- twenty years and counting!
Marsha Miller, MD, FAAP
Dr. Miller joined the staff in January 1997. She earned a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in 1980. She graduated from The Medical College of Wisconsin in 1984 and completed her residency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1987 at the Good Samaritan Family Practice Program. Dr. Miller practiced for many years at Harvard Community Health Plan in Swansea, Massachusetts. She holds board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine. She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School here at Brown. Dr. Miller has enjoyed giving campus workshops for students regarding sexual health as well as lecturing to the New England College Association on the topic. She enjoys teaching pediatric and family practice residents----who sometimes see patients with her.
In her spare time, Dr. Miller enjoys dancing and hiking. She also loves to cook. She is an excellent charades player.
Gillian Morris, MD
Dr. Morris joined the staff in July of 2018. She earned her ScB in neuroscience from Brown University and her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her family medicine residency at the Brown University Program in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Morris has special interests in the care of gender diverse patients; reproductive health and long-acting reversible contraception; mental and behavioral health; and dermatology. She also enjoys teaching medical students and residents as a Clinical Instructor of Family Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School here at Brown.
In her spare time, she loves cooking, exploring new cuisines, and vintage shopping.
Sheila C. Raimondo, DO
Dr. Raimondo joined the staff in February of 2011. She earned a BA at the College of the Holy Cross and a DO at the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in family practice at Cranston General Hospital in RI. She is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Previous affiliations include Health Services at Rhode Island College and Johnson and Wales University and urgent care centers.
Edward Wheeler Jr., MD
Dr. Wheeler joined the staff in August of 1983. He earned a BA from Harvard University in English literature and a MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Jewish Hospital and a 2 year fellowship in adolescent medicine at the Children's Hospital Medical Center, both in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He served as Director of Health Services from 1989 until October of 2014. Areas of professional interest include travel medicine and men's health.
He is an active tennis player, reader of crime/detective novels (especially fond of Lee Child and Richard Price) and is attempting to write a detective crime novel himself.
Heather Aliotta, MSN, APRN, WHNP, ANP-BC
Adult and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
Heather joined the staff in January of 2017 and has special interests in women's health and primary care. She earned her BA from Brown University concentrating in Psychology and Health & Society. She became a certified Nurse Practitioner after earning her MSN from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. She is board certified in Advanced Practice Nursing in Women's Health by the National Certification Corporation, as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and is certified by the State of RI as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges. Her previous affiliation was with Massachusetts General Hospital. She returned to Rhode Island to work as a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Room at Women & Infants' Hospital. She is registered by the State of RI as a Registered Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges.
Heather enjoys spending time with her family, visiting the beach, trying new cuisines, and reading novels.
Callie Avis APRN, FNP-BC
Family Nurse Practitioner
Callie joined the Health Services staff in September of 2017. She received her BSN from John Hopkins School of Nursing, and her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Minnesota State, Mankato. Callie has worked extensively with underserved populations, including as a Community Health Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa and, most recently, at SSTAR Family HealthCare Center in Fall River, MA. She is board certified in Advanced Practice Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is certified by the State of RI as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges. Her focus is primary care, health promotion and wellness with a special interest in integrative health modalities.
Callie spends her time outside of work raising her two young daughters to be happy, healthy, inclusive members of our world while also playing princess and scootering around the neighborhood.
Tor Clark, PA-C, MHP
Tor is certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) and has worked as a Physician Assistant at Health Services since 1987. He earned a BA in Theatre Arts at University of Mass and graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Northeastern University with a Master's of Health Professions. Tor's special medical interests include dermatology and sports medicine. Personal interests include community and professional theatre, road racing, backpacking and outdoor activities in general, all manner of indoor games, and cooking. He strives for environmental responsibility in all pursuits and laments losing his carpool of 20 yrs.
Spencer Lynch, APRN, CNP
Spencer joined the staff in July 2018. She earned her BSN and her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Boston College. She is certified in Advanced Practice Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is certified by the State of RI as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges. Prior to joining Brown University Health Services, she worked as a nurse with patients in acute condition in the Neurology ICU at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys running, traveling, hiking with her husband and their dog, and going to the beach.
Sandra Mathieu, APRN, FNP-BC
Sandra joined the staff in September of 1993 and has interests in primary and urgent care. She earned her RN at the Milwaukee Area Technical College and her Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of California Davis Medical School. She is board certified in Advanced Practice Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is certified by the State of RI as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges.
Sandra loves to weave, garden, bike, swim and ski.
Ifeoma Alexandria Obiora, MSN, APRN, ANP-C
Adult Nurse Practitioner
Ifeoma joined the staff in November of 2018 and has special interests in supporting young people to develop life tools through challenging transition periods. She brings with her experiences working with young adults at the Needham Public Schools, the Brooks School in Andover, the Exploration School at Wellesley College and recently the Wellesley College Health Services. She earned her BSN from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She became a Certified Nurse Practitioner after earning her MSN from Boston College. She is a board certified Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and is certified by the State of RI & MA as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges.
She lives in Boston and has 3 teenage children, loves to read mystery novels and spending time with her cat, Chitter who really runs the house.
Alison Perry, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC
Family Nurse Practitioner
Alison is board certified in Advanced Practice Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is certified by the State of RI as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University where she earned a Bachelor's in anthropology and spent a semester abroad in Santiago, Chile in a cultural immersion program. She then went on to receive both her Bachelor's and Master's of Science in Nursing degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Her clinical interests include women's health, reproductive health and primary care, with an emphasis on preventive services and education. She works also works as a Primary Care Provider at Women's Medicine Collaborative in Providence.
In her spare time, Alison enjoys doing crossword puzzles, cooking, knitting and reading.
Rita Shiff, PA-C, MHP Physician Assistant
Rita is a Physician Assistant certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She has worked at Health Services since 2000. Rita’s special interests include travel medicine, women's health and health education. Prior to working in college health she worked in internal medicine for Harvard Community Health Plan and with the Framingham Heart Study. She serves as an adjunct lecturer in Anatomy at Community College of RI and holds a BS degree in Biology from Cornell University, an MAT in teaching Biology from Harvard University, and a Master of Health Professions degree from Northeastern University. Rita earned a certificate in digital photography from RISD and especially enjoys nature photography.
In her spare time, Rita can be found kicking up her heels line dancing.
Laura N. Ward, MS, APRN, FNP-BC
Family Nurse Practitioner
Laura earned a BSN from the University of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing in 1980. After graduation, she practiced at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She then moved to Rhode Island to work as a community health nurse while she completed an MS in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Rhode Island. She is board certified in Advanced Practice Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is certified by the State of RI as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges. Since becoming an FNP in 1987, Laura has worked at community health centers, family planning clinics, and a staff model HMO. She joined the staff at Brown University Health Services in August 2005 and has found it fulfilling to support students as they pursue all their interests.
When not working at Brown, Laura enjoys singing in her church choir, attending musical performances, reading, preparing meals that bring family together, travel, and hiking in the woods.
Tracy Bergeron, RDN, CSSD, LDN
Tracy joined the Health Services staff in January 2015. She earned her BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Vermont and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Rhode Island. As a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, Tracy works with many of our teams and student-athletes here. Prior to starting at Brown, Tracy was Senior Pediatric Dietitian at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence where she specialized in the treatment of eating disorders of all types.
Outside of work, Tracy enjoys spending time with her two young children.
