Text/Chat Resources for Sexual & Relationship Violence

During this time, we wanted to highlight the availability of resources for any student who may be experiencing interpersonal, sexual or relationship violence, or dealing with the impacts of harm, and need immediate and accessible support.  24/7 phone support through the Sexual Assault Response Line  (401-863-6000) is still available for any student to call, as are the urgent resources at CAPS.  Other valuable resources, some with 24/7 access, can be found on this helpful website from Futures Without Violence, and check out the Women’s Funding Network’s #signalforhelp campaign.

Depending on your surroundings privacy can be hard to find and in a time of heightened need, we know not everyone can make a phone or video call to connect with help. The following resources are free and available 24 hours, 7 days a week via a web browser, or can be accessed via text message on any cell phone.

  • National Text and Chat resources: According to Technology Safety from The National Network to End Domestic Violence, several national and some state hotlines offer 24/7 online chat and text messaging for support in English and Spanish.  Visit their website for an up-to-date list of services.  Below are two of the national options:

  • Text resource in Rhode Island: Sojourner House, an organization that has served survivors of domestic and sexual violence for over 40 years, now has a confidential line to connect with advocacy via text.

    • Text Sojourner House at 401-214-7882 for non-emergency advocacy services, resources, or support.
