See Something? Say Something!

Bruno says: If you see something, say something! Keep yourself and your fellow Brown community members safe by reporting any suspicious activity to DPS.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Bruno would like to encourage community members to pay attention to their surroundings and report suspicious circumstances.  In this video we depict a suspcious circumstance involving a suspicious vehicle that appears to be scanning the area and "casing out" a student perhaps to establish an opportunity to commit a crime.  The student was somewhat distracted by his thoughts, and possibly his music, and did not initially recognize this vehicle until Bruno brought it to his attention.  What a close call!

Some examples of suspcious vehicles include, but are not limited to:

  • Vehicles parked along the street with occupants appearing to be watching pedestrians.
  • Vehicles slowly circling the area repeatedly.
  • Vehicles with occupants yelling obscenities, harassing pedestrians or throwing objects out of the window.
  • Vehicles traveling in the area at an excessive speed.

Reports of suspcious vehicles and circumstances can be reported to DPS by calling (401)863-3322 or 3-3322 from an campus or Blue-Light Emergency Phone.  Remember, when reporting suspicious activity focus on the behavior of the subject(s) involved that cause concern for your safety, or the safety of others.  For more information about reporting suspicious circumstances please visit the Deparment of Public Safety website.

We would like to offer a special thanks to George Olesky, our actor in the Bear Tips "See Something, Say Something!" video.
