Jermaine Pearson, Associate Chaplain for the Protestant Community

Jermaine L. Pearson, MDiv currently serves as the Associate University Chaplain for the Protestant Community at Brown University where he oversees Protestant Religious Life and provides much counseling and support to students, staff and faculty at the university. In addition to his pastoral care duties, he also manages Harmonizing Grace, Brown’s only Gospel Choir where he is in charge of music direction and solidifying singing engagements within the Providence community.
Prior to joining OCRL, Jermaine served as the Outreach Campus Minister at Loyola University Chicago where he was tasked with outreach and diversity efforts for the Campus Ministry Department. Having a heart for young people and those on the margins, Jermaine performed a year of service via AmeriCorps as the Volunteer and Mentor Coordinator for CCEO Youth Build in Lennox, CA where he worked with at-risk youth and young adults by providing mentorship, and guided students through the college admissions process. Additionally, his professional experience includes time as the Coordinator of Alumni Relations at Pepperdine University and Worship Coordinator for the Youth Theological Initiative at the Candler School of Theology.
Jermaine earned his Bachelor of Arts in Marketing Communication-Public Relations from Columbia College Chicago in 2009 and completed his Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2016. He is an advocate for the arts and personally infuses art into ministry as means of social justice. Jermaine is an avid writer, actor, singer, preacher, spoken word artist and can be seen around Chicago and Providence spreading the Gospel through various artistic forms.
Jermaine is a member of Beneficent Congregational Church in Providence, RI where he serves on the leadership team. He is an active participant in the congregation and is often tasked to preach, lead prayer and give lectures at the church regarding church mobilization and outreach. Jermaine is currently a Member in Discernment within the United Church of Christ and will be getting ordained in September of 2019.
