CareerLAB supports Brown Ph.D. students through every step of their graduate careers. We provide many services and resources focused on assisting Brown graduate students in exploring the many career options open to them, preparing for their chosen career paths, and navigating the academic and non-academic job markets. Our services are designed to complement the essential advice of faculty mentors and advisors.
CareerLAB offers access to Brown’s online alumni network BrownConnect, Events on the academic job search, and the job search in non-profits, business, industry research, and government, and one-on-one career counseling appointments, discussing topics including, but not limited to, career exploration, self-assessment, transition from academia to non-academia, resume/CV/cover letter development, job searching, interview preparation, and offer negotiation. We encourage you to use our services and programs early and often!
Our services for Ph.D. Students include:
· ½ hour confidential advising appointments with Zhichun Lin, Ph.D., Assistant Director of Career Counseling for Graduate Student via Zoom or in-person on all aspects of career related topics. All appointments are scheduled through Handshake.
· Weekly Graduate Career Fellow Open Hours for Ph.D. Students for questions of getting started with CareerLAB resources and Resume/Cover Letter critique available in-person or virtually. No appointment required
· Brown Ph.D. Career Beyond Academia Panel Series, Hiring Ph.D.--Employer's Perspective Info Session Series, and Turning Your Ph.D. into a Job Workshop Series. Please check Handshake regularly and subscribe to GSNOTICE for the upcoming events for Ph.D. students.
· Access to BrownConnect, Brown’s on-line alumni network and Brown University LinkedIn Alumni Page
· Access to Brown’s non-academic recruiting programs, including employer info sessions, Career Fairs, job postings and on-site interviews
