All PhD students are welcome to attend any of our workshops, employer sessions, career fairs, or alumni events listed on the Events@Brown site.
The Brown Center for Career Exploration has support for every step along the way. Let’s get you started in the right direction.
Our students find mentors, friends and collaborators within and among Brown’s wide alumni network to explore careers and life after Brown.
The Brown Center for Career Exploration works closely with students who know from early on in their graduate work that they do not plan to remain in academia or their discipline and students who decide to leave academia later in their careers. Regardless of when or how you come to consider a career transition, we are here to help.
Many, but not all, Brown PhD students will seek faculty positions. Not all faculty positions have the same style and requirements. If you are more interested in teaching than research, a small liberal arts college might be a better fit than a R1 research institution for you. On the other hand, a career in academia is much more than just being a professor.
