Advising Resources on Campus
Career Advisors are available to meet with international students during regularly scheduled appointments and walk-in hours. Discussions focus on the concentration decision, as well as resume and cover letter development, and interviewing skills. We also suggest that international students connect with CareerLAB early in their time at Brown to anticipate and prepare for the internship and job search.
Throughout the academic year, CareerLAB offers workshops and programs that help students develop their knowledge of career paths as well as the skills required for the job/internship search process. As an international student, you should take advantage of these programs and workshops; they are a great way to learn about the work culture in the US. CareerLAB programming is listed on the CareerLAB-specific University Calendar. You can also keep up with our schedule by following us on Facebook or Instagram.
The OISSS is the primary resource on campus for international students to get essential information on employment and visa issues. OISSS runs a series of workshops throughout the year, with immigration lawyers, on work authorization and employment visas for international students. Requirements and regulations change constantly – stay in touch with OISSS advisors to avoid employment missteps.
Effective communication skills are essential to the job search, including writing skills required for cover letters and resumes. The Brown Writing Center offers individual conferences with students as well as ESL workshops.
