Bita Shooshani, MS is the Coordinator of Sexual Assault Prevention and Advocacy through the Health Education office, 13 Brown Street. She can be reached at 863-2794. Crisis support and information is available for Brown students (female and male) dealing with sexual assault, sexual harassment, or violence in a relationship.
The Sexual Assault and Trauma Resource Center of RI, which is not affiliated with Brown, offers various services to individuals living in RI. (These resources are available in RI only. Check your local phone book if you are in another state.):
The Victims of Crime hotline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-494-8100. Counselor-advocates there provide confidential support, information and advocacy, and are available to accompany victims of sexual assault at hospitals, the police station and court.
Ongoing counseling or appropriate referrals are also available through Day One, a program for victims of violence located on Medway Street in Providence. Day One has an ongoing group for female survivors of sexual assault and periodically offers an incest survivors group. For more information about the groups call Day One at 421-4100 ext. 230.
