The Offices of the Dean of the College Office and Campus Life and Student Services welcome transfer students to Brown with an orientation program and annual calendar of events specifically designed to support the transition of transfer students to academic and campus life at Brown, whether they are starting in the fall or spring semester. During orientation, students meet with academic and campus life deans and directors of many campus offices to learn about the support services and opportunities available at Brown. Each incoming transfer student also has a peer counselor who reaches out to them prior to arrival and helps to orient and welcome them once they are on campus. Students who previously transferred to Brown serve as these peer counselors.
Before classes and registration start, new transfer students meet with academic advisors (faculty members, academic deans, or both) to discuss their course selection for the semester and their longer-range academic plans. Transfers are encouraged to consult with additional faculty and deans to plan their programs of study after orientation and to initiate the formal concentration declaration process upon arrival if they are entering Brown as second semester sophomores or juniors. Once a student files a concentration, the student's primary advisor will be a concentration advisor in that area.
