Fitness & Recreation

Brown offers a range of programs that enable students to enjoy and benefit from physical activity.

Fitness Facilities & Activities

All fitness facilities are available to actively-enrolled students with their Brown ID card: Nelson Fitness Center, Catherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, Olney-Margolies Athletic Center, squash and tennis courts, the Pollard Family ice rink in Meehan Auditorium, and two satellite fitness centers located in the residence halls.

Students often form informal groups in pursuit of their favorite fitness activity.  Recognized student organizations -- such as the ballroom dance, running, taekwondo, and yoga clubs -- are listed as part of the Student Activities Office list of student organizations.

Recreation classes and instructional activities are sponsored through the  Recreational Sports department of Brown University Athletics.

Intramural Sports

Intramural sports are time-limited, team sports organized for on-campus competition; examples include flag football, volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball, kickball, and inner tube water polo.  All Brown and RISD students, faculty and staff may participate in the intramural program, which is sponsored through the Recreational Sports department of Brown University Athletics.

Club sports

Brown's seventeen Club Sport teams offer students a higher level of competition than that provided by on-campus intramurals.
