Student Initiatives

The Center is also home to many student initiatives.

The Black Student Initiative (BSI)

The Black Student Initiative fosters community among the various Black Student groups on campus. In addition to being aware of community needs and communicating those needs to the administration, the Black Student Initiative also maintains a close relationship with Black Alumni (specifically, the Inman Page Black Alumni Council).

BlackBoard Initiative meetings: BSI invites student leaders from the various Black student groups on campus to come together and discuss the potential for collective action.  

ONYX: The Black Student Initiative workers spearhead the ONYX Society in order to plan ONYX, the annual rites of passage ceremony that celebrates the transition from Black student to Black Alumni.

The Latino Student Initiative (LSI)

The Latino Student Initiative fosters community among various Latino student groups on campus. In addition to being aware of community needs and communicating those needs to the administration, the Latino Student Initiative also maintains a close relationship with BULAC (Brown University's Latino Alumni Council) and spearheads the Latino Commencement Ceremony, a celebration of the transition from graduating senior to Latino Alumni.

Brown University Latinx Council Gatherings: LSI periodically invites student leaders from the various Latino student groups on campus to come together and discuss the potential for collective action.

The Asian American Student Initiative (AASI)

The Asian American Student Initiative fosters community among the various Asian American Student groups on campus. In addition to being aware of community needs and communicating those needs to the administration, the Asian American Student Initiative also maintains a close relationship with the Asian/Asian American Alumni Alliance (A4).

 

 

Pan Asian Council: AASI periodically invites student leaders from the various Asian/Asian American student groups on campus to come together and discuss the potential for collective action. This Pan Asian Council also keeps and maintains a listserv, sending a weekly email with updates relevant to the Pan Asian community.
