The Rhode Island Neuroscience Consortium announces results of the New Frontiers Awards

The Rhode Island Neuroscience Consortium (RINC), in partnership with the Brown Institute for Brain Science, the Norman Prince Neurosciences Institute, and the George and Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience at the University of Rhode Island announced the results for the special round of New Frontiers Awards. These awards support brain science projects involving scientists from any of the institutions represented on the RINLC: Brown University, University of Rhode Island, Lifespan Hospitals, Care New England Hospitals, and the Providence VA Medical Center.

The following projects have been awarded a New Frontiers award:

“The Role of Matrix Metalloproteases in Neurodevelopmental Disorders”

“Screening a cyanobacteria-derived pure compound library for cathepsin-modulating small molecules”
Matthew J. Bertin, PhD, Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Rhode Island.

“Development of the Maternal Neural Circuit among Postpartum Women with Maltreatment Histories”
Margaret H. Bublitz, PhD, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and Women’s Medicine Collaborative, The Miriam Hospital.

“Neural substrates of context-dependent working memory in youth with overweight/obesity and loss of control eating”
Andrea Goldschmidt, PhD, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and The Miriam Hospital.

“Parallel control of multiple steps in motor neuron wiring by TAG-1”
Alexander Jaworski, PhD, Department of Neuroscience, Brown University.

“Early Adversity and Cellular Aging in Mother-Infant Dyads: Mitochondria, Telomeres, and Mental Health”
