Cognitive Neuroscience

Major/concentration and Graduation Year.

Cognitive Neuroscience, 2020.

Where are you from?

Berkeley, California

What were your academic interests in high school?

Biology, Latin, Chemistry, Neuroscience and Psychology.

What is your favorite activity outside of the classroom?

I really like rock climbing and intramural softball right now, although I'm not getting too much time to pursue those activities currently.

Why did you decide to pursue research in brain science?

I got interested in brain science after reading Oliver Sack's "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat." It got me to start wondering about the mechanisms behind perception and cognition. After interning in a vision science lab during my junior year of high school, I became certain that I wanted to continue research in some area of brain science.

What research project and laboratory did you work in?

I worked in Joo-Hyun Song's Perception, Action, and Cognition Lab on a project investigating the mechanisms behind motor learning through visual observation.

What is your most memorable experience from your training in brain science?

My most memorable experience from my training in brain science was the first time I got results for an experiment. It was really exciting because it was the first tangible sign that I was making progress, and it was really the first time I was able to check whether or not I was going in the right direction with my research project.

What have you learned from this experience that you are applying to other aspects of your Brown degree?

I have learned a lot about taking concepts and ways of thinking from other subjects and interests and testing all of them against each other to find the best solutions to problems.

What would you like to do after graduating?

I would like to continue to graduate school and pursue more opportunities in brain science research.
