What is my responsibility toward keeping restrooms clean?
Communal restrooms will be cleaned and disinfected daily by Facilities Management (FM) Custodial Services. Students who reside in suites and apartments with private, en-suite bathrooms will be provided with a cleaning and disinfecting product and instructions on its use. In addition, students may request a supplemental cleaning performed by FM Custodial Services by calling FM’s Service Response Center at 401-863-7800 or visiting the FM website to submit a Service Request. Requests will be scheduled by appointment and the student must be present to allow access.
In communal restrooms, please use paper towels from the wall dispensers to wipe disinfected surfaces. For en-suite and apartment locations, paper towel rolls will be provided by FM.
How do I know the disinfectant products are safe and effective?
Disinfecting cleaning products provided by the University have been reviewed by EHS for safety and effectiveness against coronavirus. Caution must be taken with the chemicals provided in the spray disinfectant bottles. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label. Product safety information can be found in a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) here.
If I need replenishment or replacement of my disinfecting cleaning product, where should I go?
Students needing replenishment should go to the Key Office at Grad Center E to obtain more product.

- Allow the surface to remain wet for one (1) minute.
- Wipe the surface dry or allow it to air-dry.

Why does the disinfecting cleaning product I received say “For Use in Life sciences?”
This product is already widely used at Brown University in the form of disinfectant wipes. In addition to its efficacy in Life Sciences areas, it is effective for use as a ‘One-Step Cleaner/Disinfectant,’ which is the intended use for which it has been provided to you.
How should I discard used paper towels?
Please DO NOT DISCARD PAPER TOWELS IN TOILET BOWLS. This can cause severe plumbing problems in many cases because toilets are not designed to handle the thickness of paper towels.
