Brown University’s College Hill campus is 146 acres and includes: 76 acres of athletic fields and campus turf; 6.5 acres of shrubs and beds; 13 acres of parking lots; 11 acres of sidewalks; and two green roofs. Along with the College Hill campus, the grounds team also maintains properties throughout Providence, with the majority located in the Historic Jewelry District. In order to accomplish all the necessary work and diversity of tasks, the grounds is organized into four subsections.

Campus Landscape:

The campus landscape crew maintains all campus quads, ceremonial gardens, and other university property. Typical duties include daily trash and recycling pickup, mowing, watering, weeding, planting, sweeping, and deicing.

Athletic Fields:

The athletic field crew maintains 35 acres of sports fields, tennis courts, outdoor track and field, as well all the grounds around the athletic complex. Typical duties include daily trash and recycling pick-up, lining or painting of fields, clay infield maintenance, mowing, watering, and sweeping. Seasonal duties include setting up and breaking down the Pizzitola Gymnasium for basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and events.

Campus Services:

The campus services group handles a catch-all of numerous tasks and assignments. Typical duties include manhole and storm drain maintenance, events support, building cleanouts and large scale trash removal, graffiti removal, parking lot and sidewalk maintenance, and campus landscape support.

Ice Rink:

The ice rink crew services one of the busiest buildings on campus, Meehan Auditorium, open 7 days per week and staffed up to 19 hours per day.
