Registration for IO-2019 is now open! Please note that you have to be logged into your Brown email in order to fill out this form. Sign up for IO-2019 before Friday August 16, 2019 here.

Note: International students are able to move in beginning Tuesday August 27, 2019. The first mandatory event begins at 6 PM on Wednesday August 28, 2019.

Tuesday, August 27: Move-In Day

Welcome Check-In and Information Desk

9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (P)
Check in, pick up International Orientation program materials, and meet some of your friendly IMP mentors. Please be sure to bring some form of photo identification - a passport, driver's license or school ID will work perfectly!
Faunce Arch (Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center, 75 Waterman Street)

* After 6:00 PM, students should contact the Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322 or visit 75 Charlesfield Street to gain access to their residence hall room. Keys can also be collected on Wednesday August 28, beginning at 9:00 AM onwards at the Welcome Desk at the Faunce Arch (Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center, 75 Waterman Street).

Passport Registration [mandatory for all students on a visa]

Stop by during this time to register with the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS). Be sure to bring your passport, I-20 and I-94 printout with you.

Trip to Bed Bath & Beyond and Providence Place Mall

Need bedding and other dorm essentials? Join mentors on a bus trip to Bed Bath and Beyond, located in Providence Place Mall. Buses will be shuttling back and forth from campus to the store between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Campus Tour

5:15 PM – 6:00 PM (P)                     
Familiarize yourself with Brown and join us for the tour of the main campus area. This is an additional tour time added for International Orientation. Families and students may also go on tours daily all week at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM departing from Faunce Arch; please check-in at the Welcome and Information Center inside the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center.

First Generation/Low Income & International Student Experience Center Dinner                               

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM             
Join international students who self-identify as being low-income and/or the first in their families to attend college in the United States for a dinner co-hosted by the Undocumented, First-Generation College and Low-Income Student (U-FLi) Center and the Global Brown Center for International Students (GBC).

Take a tour of Brown’s libraries led by some of our beloved library faculty. Become acquainted with the libraries’ resources, visit their open stacks, and peruse through Brown’s rare book collection.

Banking and Cell Phone Fair

11:00 AM – 3:00 PM (P)
Representatives from local banks (Santander, Bank of America, Citizens, and BankNewport) and cell phone providers (AT&T, CampusSIMS, T-Mobile, and Verizon) will be there to help you set up accounts without leaving campus.

Sustainability Tour

Join Brown's Sustainability Tour to learn about sustainability initiatives on campus, including an introduction to composting and recycling, academics, and sustainable food! Current Brown students share how students can get involved inside and outside the classroom.

Academic Conventions and Writing in the United States

Prepare for your time at Brown through presentations about academic conventions in the United States. These brief presentations will highlight academic integrity expectations, norms for different disciplines, and an exploration of the academic writing process. This program is for all international students with opportunities tailored to various levels of familiarity with US academic culture.

We asked international students to nominate their favorite faculty and administrators, and now you get to have lunch with them! Hear about what the classroom environment is like, talk about your academic interests (and theirs!), and experience first-hand how accessible Brown's faculty and administrators are to undergraduates.

Why are We Stressed? Wellness at Brown [mandatory]

Why do we get stressed? How can we get rid of our stress? Join this interactive session with IMP, staff of Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and other experts on what it means to be healthy at Brown. There may or may not be exciting things! Any questions from how to deal with homesickness to how Brown Health Insurance works will be answered.

Join mentors and classmates for a meal at the Sharpe Refectory, affectionately known as "the Ratty"! We will be in Back Alcove, which is found at the back of the Ratty if you walk forward when you enter.
Note: Parents and family members must pay. Students can use their meal plan.
