Expanding Scope of Treatment of Youth with Obesity and/or Eating Disorders

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTFrecently reissued a Grade B recommendation for clinicians to screen children aged 6-18 years, for obesity, and refer identified youth to comprehensive programs that include diet, physical activity, and behavioral strategies. Despite this recommendation, the majority of youth in the United States do not receive evidence-based treatment of obesity. With respect to eating disorders, there is a vast shortage of trained professionals to treat youth with eating disorders in Rhode Island.
